About Us
Raised in our home
Our dogs are happy, healthy family members raised in a loving environment inside our home. We only breed one litter a year. They live full-time in our living room, other than during their supervised play sessions and adventures around our farm. Our Portuguese water dog puppies are handled safely and extensively by our children ranging from 2-7 years old.
We use the Puppy Culture program for socialization and early training, so your puppy will come to you with a head start on potty training, sitting for pets, and the beginnings of clicker training. They receive early neurological stimulation and targeted lessons to help them later in life to be comfortable with grooming on a raised surface, having their nails trimmed, and being happy to relinquish food or toys (to help prevent later resource guarding).
Show kennels will place a stigma on "backyard breeders" calling them puppy mills. But we firmly believe that raising quality pets in a healthy home environment is perfectly acceptable when done responsibly with care and love!
We welcome your visit to our farm to meet the puppies, the parents, and learn more about our program. While you're here you can visit the other animals on our farmstead...gather a fresh chicken egg, try your hand milking a goat, and give the horses a carrot and a scratch!
A Furever Friend
Portuguese Water Dogs make excellent pets for the right families. They are loyal, affectionate, energetic and great with children. If you are looking for a couch potato, though, they may not be the breed for you! PWDs do best with active families. Swimming, hiking, bike riding, jogging, horseback riding...if those are things your family enjoys, then a Portie could be a great fit for you!
When they don't get enough exercise or mental stimulation, Porties can develop a myriad of bad habits. As your breeder we are happy to help you along your puppy training journey! We will provide handouts that give plenty of ideas for healthy, age-appropriate physical activities for puppy as he/she grows. We will always be just a phone call, email, or text away if you questions about potty training, health, or any other difficulty you may have with your puppy along the way.
We want to stay in touch! When you get a puppy from Autumn Branch Farm you will be invited to our members-only Facebook group where you can post pictures of your furry family member as they grow, and share their achievements, setbacks, and cuteness with all the puppy owners in our "pack". It's so much fun seeing their siblings grow up and staying connected! You can also use the group to connect with other local puppy owners if you'd like to arrange dog park play dates, group hikes or swims!
Meet The Parents!
Our stud dog Kodiak comes from championship bloodlines, from CeeAnjel Portuguese Water Dogs in Montana. He was bred to be a show dog and the primary stud for that kennel, but sadly due to the declining health of the owner, they had to end their program and find good homes for their dogs. We were very fortunate to be able to get Kody as a puppy 7 years ago. He arrived shortly before our twin sons were born, so they grew up together. Kody has a lovely black and white, irish-marked, wavy coat, excellent conformation, and a sweet, loving temperament.
Bailey is the most recent addition to our family, and the proud mother of our most recent litter of 8. She is great with our kids, is an excellent retriever, and an avid swimmer! She is a chocolate wavy-coated Portuguese water dog, and extremely affectionate. She loves belly rubs and frequently comes along on family trips to the local greenway for stroller walks and playtime in the river.
